The programme is designed to identify a pool of employees who can be assessed, recognised and encouraged to achieve long term success in their careers in the Fenestration Industry and who through proper training, development and mentoring can contribute significantly to the industry’s future.
The programme is designed for anybody who has been in the industry for less than three years or, in the case of more senior or technical roles, in their position for less than three years.
Anybody can nominate and employee, colleague, son or daughter for the Talent Recognition Programme, supported by the required information outlined in the application form. An employee or self-employed person can also nominate themselves.
Nominees for the Building Our Skills Talent Recognition Programme will be assessed against a set of benchmarking key competency criteria specifically designed to identify their progress relative to where they are on their career journey, and to assess their potential for further growth and development. You can find the Talent Recognition Programme assessment criteria here
The aim of the programme is to recognise talent and reward it, to encourage progress, and to support employee development to help them become the industry’s next generation of achievers, ambassadors and leaders.
Those who have their talent recognised will therefore be earmarked within their company as being capable of progression and career development and to have the rewards that come with it.
Each candidate achieving recognition will have access to an industry mentor for 12 months to help and guide them, and to offer advice and support as they develop their careers.
They will each achieve a merit certificate and award, and will have the opportunity to meet with their mentors at a special event being hosted on the Building Our Skills stand at the FIT Show 2019.
Each Talent Recognition Programme sponsor is nominating a mentor to act on their behalf with those candidates who achieve recognition and our aim is to develop a robust network of people with vast industry experience who can pass their knowledge on to the next generation.
Mentoring can provide much needed additional support to someone who is in the early stages of their career, helping them to understand their role in the business, develop their career path, and provide a listening ear if they’re facing any problems and challenges.
A mentor will pass on valuable skills, knowledge and insights to the person being mentored and the process can be highly beneficial to both businesses and the individual.
When carried out well, mentoring not only provides the person being mentored with confidence and self-reliance, it can help to build strong teams, transfer valuable knowledge and prevent skills gaps from developing. Details here
There are 16 categories in the programme where employees can have their talent recognised, and for each it is hoped that there will be multiple achievers – we are effectively looking to create a ‘Class of 2019’ who will be recognised, supported, and allocated industry mentors to help them in their careers. The list of categories can be downloaded here
